Our History

A Vineyard Shaped by Centuries

The history of Mont‑sur‑Rolle is intimately linked to that of its vines. For centuries, the hillside overlooking Lake Geneva has been shaped by those who cultivate it, with a single goal: to produce wines that express the richness of this terroir.

As early as the 12th century, the hillside was cleared by monks from Burgundy. They notably planted Chasselas, a grape variety that would over time become one of the region's great signatures and continues to hold an essential place in the Mont‑sur‑Rolle vineyard today.

Expertise Passed Down from Generation to Generation

While the viticultural landscape of Mont‑sur‑Rolle bears the traces of its history, it is above all the result of the work of the women and men who, generation after generation, have cultivated these lands.

Today, about thirty winegrowers and vintners bring this heritage to life across more than 250 hectares. They perpetuate an expertise acquired over time, while evolving their practices and their wines. Because the history of a vineyard is not just about its past: it continues to be written every year, to the rhythm of the seasons, the harvests, and new generations.

This continuity is reflected in the diversity of wines produced in Mont‑sur‑Rolle. While Chasselas remains deeply associated with the vineyard's identity, other grape varieties also find their expression here: Gamay, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Merlot, and many others contribute to a rich and varied range, in both red and white.

A Living Heritage

The Association des Vins de Mont‑sur‑Rolle today brings together the key players of this vineyard around a common ambition: to promote and showcase the wines of the appellation, its terroir, and the expertise of its winegrowers and vintners.

More than just a legacy to preserve, this heritage is a living history, made of passion, hard work, and shared moments. Each bottle thus carries a part of this terroir and of those who bring it to life.

From the Burgundian monks to today's winemakers, from the first plantings to contemporary wines, several centuries of history connect Mont‑sur‑Rolle to its vines. A story that continues to be written with passion, generation after generation.
