As in Lavaux, Cistercian monks were also responsible for the origin of viticulture on the Côte. Regarding Mont Abbey, the monks from Bonmont Abbey received these lands in the 12th century and quickly transformed them into vineyards.
The Lausanne chapter of the estate only begins at the start of the 19th century, in 1802, when the City acquired it during the sale of national assets. An important step in Lausanne’s wine history: it was indeed the first time the municipality acquired vineyards in the region and, above all, outside of Lavaux.
Chasselas and Specialties
Chasselas represents 50% of the white grape varieties cultivated on the estate. These are complemented by Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The main red grape varieties are Pinot Noir and Gamay.
Long committed to environmentally friendly viticulture, all wines from the City of Lausanne estates are now produced organically and are Bio Suisse certified.
